Curiously, the roof widths remain very similar. The growth comes mostly from wheelbase.

Uhh... wheelbase is the distance between the centre of axles lengthwise of the car . So you couldn’t have possibly compare wheelbase in that pic.

I think you mean “track width ”.

All the more reason to rebirth the 912.....back to the sporting car instead of a model bloat. The MX5 stayed true to it’s ideals.

Width bothers me less than belt line raising. Especially since the width is mostly just in the wheel track; which I have to imagine keeps the heavy rear in check. Belt line makes the whole car feel bigger than it is in my experience. And yes, I know, safety.

Technically that exists already... the 718 Cayman. 9 12 was a stopgap until the 914 was available, so lineage wise that is a Cayman.

912 -> 914 -> 924 -> 944 -> 968 -> Boxster/Cayman.

It’s interesting how most of the growth has been in width and the height of the visual centre of mass.

Also, 4S = widebody.

Eh.....912 to 914....totally different config. 912 was a stop gap after the 356 but what they found was a better handling car without so much weight behind it. I sing for a return to that. A unbloated 911
